Gynecologic Endoscopy
Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy / Normal and Abnormal Female Anatomy

Gynecologic endoscopy refers to laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. Laparoscopy refers to the placement of a telescope usually at the level of the belly button to examine and treat diseases in the abdomen and pelvis. Hysteroscopy refers to the placement of a telescope into the uterine cavity to inspect and perform surgery for abnormal conditions in the uterine cavity.

Four instruments, (trocars) are inserted into the abdomen
Up to four instruments, (trocars) are inserted into the abdomen through which a telescope and operating instruments are used to perform surgery.


Dr. John George, surgeon, performs various laparoscopic procedures
The surgeon performs various laparoscopic procedures by looking at the image on a TV monitor.


Hysteroscopy is performed by placing a special telescope with sheath through the vagina
Hysteroscopy is performed by placing a special telescope with a sheath through the vagina into the uterine cavity. Polyps and fibroids may be removed by hysteroscopy.
